Canada’s Hip Hop Godfather Belly the First Canadian Indie Hip Hop Artist to go Gold this Century

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) November 20, 2007

VP of CP Records and 2007 MuchMusic Video Award (MMVA) winner, Palestinian-Canadian rapper Belly has now become the first independent Canadian hip hop artist to go Gold this century with his double album debut The Revolution. Belly now joins the ranks of other Gold-selling hip hop artists this year including T.I. and K-OS. This outstanding accomplishment comes hot on the heels of his new video for the album’s third single “Ridin’” featuring Mario Winans, which was added as The Big One last month at MuchMusic.

After releasing on June 5, 2007, on CP Records/Fontana North, The Revolution’s first single “Pressure” featuring Grammy Award winner Ginuwine, reached number eight on the Canadian Top 100, and its video went to number one on MuchMusic’s Countdown in April of 2007. Second single “Don’t Be Shy”, featuring Latina R&B sensations Nina Sky reached number 12 on the Canadian Top 100, and the song’s video reached number seven on the MuchMusic Countdown. “Ridin”, the album’s third single, is currently cruising up the charts, at number 31 this week on the Canadian Top 100. Belly’s Gold album also features collaborations with Scarface (“I Swear”), Fabolous (“The Freshest”) and Kurupt (“I’m The Man”).

2007 has been an incredible year for Belly. He took home the 2007 MMVA for Best Rap Video, was interviewed by Geraldo at Large for Fox News, CNN, as well as the Associated Press, was a panellist at Russell Simmons’ Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) and wrote the new theme song for his hometown NHL team the Ottawa Senators. He kicked off the year touring the country with hip hop heavyweights Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube in January, so it’s only fitting that Belly closes 2007 headlining his own cross-country tour:
