Kitzhaber to Address Health Care Reform at Oct. 14 City Club Forum
Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 1, 2005
At its weekly Friday Forum luncheon on Oct. 14, City Club of Portland presents ÂOn the Road to Revolution: Fear and Loathing in the U.S. Health Care System, featuring guest speaker former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, M.D.
Past efforts to reform the U.S. health care system have taken place largely around the structure of Medicare, Medicaid and employment-based health insurance coverage without examining the assumptions and premises on which these structures were built. These assumptions and premises, says former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, reflect the realities of the 1950s and 1960s, thus shackling the structure of our system to a point in the mid-20th century, while the clinical, demographic and economic environment in which the system operates has changed dramatically. Kitzhaber says that resolving the crisis in our health care system requires the courage to move beyond simply defending programs and antiquated structures toward a critical examination of the outdated operating system that both shapes and constrains the way in which we finance and deliver health care in America today. Join us Oct. 14 to learn more about KitzhaberÂs vision of the future of our health care systems.
City ClubÂs Friday Forum, which is open to the public, will be held in the Governor Hotel (614 SW 11th Ave.).
